Smart Work Habits for Success

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying "bad habits are hard to break." But have you heard about smart work habits? Whether you are starting you career or even changing careers after years of experience, smart work habits are practices that will help you become successful.

Allen, a former NFL player, just recently transitioned into a new career and spoke about some smart habits that were essential to his job search. Self-motivation was at the top of his list -- Allen stated that, "you need to become a student in your career search and be hands-on with the process." In other words, YOU need to be the one to drive your career and learn what it takes to get that job. Allen kept an "open mind" about his career search and was eager to learn and do what was needed to find the right job.

Patience and persistence are two smart work habits that go hand-in-hand. Allen said that he, "needed to have patience in his career transition as it takes time." He also had to, "take the time to go through the process and put into practice all the steps required in finding a new job." These steps included networking, research, resume work, mock interviews and more. It takes time and hard work to go through the job search process, but the end result is worth it. Allen’s patience and persistence paid off for him after he secured a new, meaningful career.

So remember, not all habits are bad. Keep in mind these smart work habits that Allen practiced - self-motivation, patience, and persistence - and you too may find that perfect new career!
