Condition Your Mind

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity” – Seneca

As an athlete, you spent countless hours in the weight room conditioning your body for peak performance. For an athlete, the idea of conditioning and practice is fundamental to success – Leadership is no different. Good leaders do not leave success to chance, they have a system to condition their mind for success each day.

Some call it “being in the zone,” others call it a “state of mind.” Can you recall a game or competition where you felt unstoppable? Where everything seemed easy? With the right system and approach, you can feel like this as a leader as well.

Tips for Conditioning Your Mind:

  • Use affirmations. Repeat affirmations with intense emotion. “YES I CAN!”
  • Exercise. Typically, great leaders exercise first thing in the morning. The benefits of exercise such as improving emotion and reducing stress are well documented. Move – it will impact how you feel.
  • Be inspired. Read, find a motivational quote, listen to music … whatever it is, seek inspiration.

While talent and hard work are important factors in determining success, it is our thoughts, beliefs and emotions that ultimately impact performance. Conditioning your mind can help attain the mental strength necessary to meet and exceed your goals.
