Get a Move on to Increase Creativity

What can you do to increase creativity like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs did? Step away from the technology and take a walk!

Researchers out of Stanford University found that walking boosts creative inspiration. They found that a person’s creative output increased by an average of 60 percent when walking versus while they sat (click here to read the full findings).

The study found that walking indoors or outdoors similarly boosted creative inspiration. The act of walking itself, and not the environment, was the main factor. There is much research focused on how aerobic exercise generally protects long term cognitive function, now we have more reason to walk.

  1. Try a few of these ideas to incorporate walking into your day:
  2. Schedule a walking meeting.
  3. Walk to and from lunch.
  4. Take a walk with your family after dinner.
  5. Walk the dog.
  6. Walk on the treadmill while you watch TV.
