Kelly Landry Mehrtens currently serves as the Managing Director for The Trust, Powered by the NFLPA. She oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization and works tirelessly with her colleagues to execute the mission of The Trust – provide resources and a game plan to support former NFL players in their transition after football. In addition, she is responsible for the budget and assisting the Executive Director in execution of strategies to have a positive impact in the lives of former players.
Prior to The Trust, Mehrtens served as the Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer at the University of Maryland. During her four and a half years at Maryland, Mehrtens had been responsible for leading both the internal and external operations departments. She played a vital role in Maryland’s transition to the Big Ten Conference. She also served as the sport supervisor for football, women's basketball and men’s lacrosse. During her time as the athletic department’s chief financial officer, Mehrtens was responsible for all aspects of the department's operating budget, contractual agreements and capital projects.
Mehrtens served as Director of Athletics at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, prior to her tenure at Maryland. She led the UNCW athletics department after previously serving in leadership roles at the University of Kansas, the University of Illinois, the University of Miami, and Northeastern University.
A former collegiate track and field student-athlete, Mehrtens earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Alabama in 1986. She earned a master's degree in higher education from the University of Illinois in 2001.
